I just know I’ve got to say something profound for the New Year…hmmmmm…..nope, fuck it. But hey, I’m baaaaaack!

Wow, funny how fast time passes!

The last twelve months has been a blur of changes. If I were being totally truthful, time is somewhat of a mystery to me. I find it remarkable how some moments in my life feel like yesterday yet they are years old and some which happened last week feel like years have passed by.

Like my laptop…I’ve had this laptop for, oh, 11 months. There are days where it behaves like a troubled child on crack, which makes me feel I’ve had it for 11 years. Other days, it behaves as if it likes me, and it feels like yesterday that I brought it home from the store. On the crack days, I’d like to pitch it out the window. On the good days, I’d like to haul it upstairs to bed with me just to prolong the joy of working on it. There are days when I long for my Tecra (sorry HP).

Laptop aside, the last twelve to fourteen months have brought an outstanding amount of change to my life and the people, both furry and human alike, that share my space. These changes are much like my new laptop: a learning curve, a blessing and a curse…all bundled up in a package of life. Some of these changes will be spoken about here in my wee pocket of the internet, alongside my rantings and ravings, and some will quietly fade into the shadows where they belong.

I enjoy taking a poke at people who shove their heads up their butts and walk on their elbows, and today’s lucky recipient is none other than Pat Robertson. You may know of this crazy kid; he’s a southern baptist, real name is Marion, a televangelist and prophet.

On my usual morning walk around the internet, I came across a clip of Pat sharing his views on same sex marriage. You would think that if this guy founded a University, he might take a moment to put the brakes on his mouth and really think about what he’s saying.

When I first met the wonderful man who was to become my husband, he would regale me with tales of a Baked Goods Goddess he worked with. This gal could do no wrong. I often wondered if her feet touched the ground owing to the heaps of generous and (I would say) loving praise my future spouse laid at her lotus feet. In those early months it was terribly hard not to be jealous of this woman who had my man so clearly wrapped around her flour-dusted pinkie.

Aw, hell…I was jealous.

Last I heard, it was considered impolite to eavesdrop. Largely because you will hear things that are not intended for your ears or things that do not involve you. Simply put….don’t be a nosey bugger! This particular issue arises because a co-worker of mine stood outside my office door and listened to a telephone conversation. In and of itself, not a bad thing, as I was not gossipping about my fellow office mates but rather it involved a personal topic of spirituality. I work across the hall from some rather devout Baptists…and when their erstwhile leader hears me discussing topics of unconventional spirituality…it becomes a top priority to “save my immortal soul”.

When I was a child, the best part of school for me was book orders. As a parent I can still indulge in this joy.

Being one of a generation of kids that grew up without cable, book orders were a lifeline in my world. Scholastic Canada has not changed much in the last 30 years. I shudder as I think about how much time has gone by, yet I find myself looking forward to the reminder of my age with each approaching book order. The same 4 or 6 pages of newsprint, filled with books to engage, educate and ponder. I think I spend more time looking at the Scholastic offerings than my daughter does.

I just don’t understand why people think actors are required to be anything more than what they are…people.

I popped on to cnn.com today to poke about and saw an entertainment headline that demanded that one extra click of my mouse. “Brangelina get slammed for being smug!” I watched the video clip of a writer for the New York Post, Danica Lo, spouting off about the awards ceremonies and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Danica…with the biggest baseball bat wielded from me here at the wee Ruthless Compassion…pull your head out of your ass…It may help clear your vision.

December was a very odd month for me. Aside from the general holiday hustle and bustle, Christmas concerts…whoops, “Holiday Celebrations”, shopping and staff parties…then death paid a visit.

I read a column in the Globe and Mail recently that left my jaw on the floor, and me speechless…which doesn’t happen often. When the inability to articulate hits me it’s usually followed by a very loud tirade filled with expletives. Funnily enough, it was the comments posted by the other readers that made me the most furious. Since everyone has an asshole and an opinion, I’ll toss my ass into the ring right along with my opinion.

The column was about a man who decided not to have a vasectomy, he chickened out. Normally this wouldn’t be a big issue, but he and his wife conceived after he was supposed to have had his vasectomy and have three kids already…hence the need for a vasectomy. After lying to his wife, knocking her up, looking at a termination of the pregnancy, living on a shoestring…he’s trying to figure out how to smooth things over.

There are days when I get a bug up my nose about things and just have to say a few quick words.

I did get bullied into this blog…and as life throws curves my way, I do try to keep at it. I get annoyed, however, when folks submit a comment that is an ad or just random keystrokes.

These folks find my odd wee space of the internet by Googling certain words, most notably, the word “bitch”. I’ve had comments that have included underage topless girl URLs, foreign language URLs and the aforementioned random, nonsensical keyboard junk. This leads me to my next tiny diatribe…

If you’d like to post a legitimate comment, please do so. This would include people who do not agree with what I write or how I write, as long as it has reasonably clean language and a point…comment away. I will not mark a disagreement as Spam. Feel free to recommend a link of interest or relevance, if it’s not a porn link or a scam, I’ll likely put it up. If you don’t want to comment, then don’t. I do not do this for anyone else but myself, and use it as a way to empty my brain for a short time.

So…long and short of the matter is this…comment if you like, or don’t…but please don’t waste my time with Spam-like comments. I get enough of it in my email.
